working here on one of the Cladding Sculpture series

Each sculpture requires a different cladding with different attachment methods.

Ulrich uses various techniques including using copper rivets to clad this stainless steel piece with bronze.

In this way, the piece borrows from ancient artisans, achieving a look that is at once age-old and modern.To add texture and color, Ulrich uses chemical patinas and heat.

Patinas can be dribbled, brushed on, sponged or dipped into depending on the vision Ulrich has in his mind's eye.
